Toucan Mosaic

Toucan Mosaic is a self-initiated digital illustration exploring the development of my personal approach to mosaic-inspired image-making. Building on earlier experiments with digital tesserae, the project focuses on translating the organic forms, textures and vivid colour variations of a toucan into a digitally constructed mosaic.

Rather than replicating an existing mosaic, the image was developed from scratch by manually drawing and arranging individual tessera-like shapes. Their scale, orientation, density and colour were adjusted according to the anatomy and texture of the subject, allowing the mosaic structure itself to define volume, detail and visual rhythm.

The project further explores the relationship between traditional mosaic principles and contemporary digital illustration.
