Leda and the Swan

Leda and the Swan is part of an ongoing personal exploration into the digital reconstruction of Roman mosaics. The project began as an experiment in translating the visual language and construction of mosaic into a digital medium, gradually developing into an investigation of how digital representation could contribute to the contemporary presentation and understanding of archaeological heritage.

Working from the surviving artwork as a reference, I manually reconstructed its forms and colours, pixel by pixel, approaching each digital unit as an individual tessera. Rather than attempting to replace the original, the project explores how digital tools can offer an alternative way of studying, reconstructing and presenting historical artefacts.
