The fatal look of Medusa
2022
The Fatal Look of Medusa is part of an ongoing personal exploration into the digital reconstruction of Roman mosaics and the potential of digital technology in the contemporary presentation of archaeological heritage.
Using the surviving mosaic as a visual reference, I manually reconstructed its forms, colours and individual tesserae, studying the original structure and translating it into a digital medium. The process was carried out piece by piece, with the aim of preserving the visual character and irregularities of the original rather than producing a mechanically perfect reproduction.
The project explores digital reconstruction not as a substitute for the original artefact, but as an alternative means of studying, interpreting and presenting it.
